BRAHMAGAON LIFT IRRIGATION SCHEME (BLIS)
An Agreement between the Water Resources Department of the Maharashtra Government and Bluearth Water Solutions LLP / Jethro 59 Ltd (Israel) (Joint Venture) was signed on 22nd February 2021.
The fundamental focus of the project is to introduce the Israeli Model of Moshav or Cooperative Farming with the latest Israeli Technology on a scale that is impactful. Israel being a leader in agriculture worldwide has not introduced a large and impactful project in the sector in India . With this commercial application of agricultural technology the misnomer that agriculture can only provide subsistence livelihood to the Indian farmer can be falsified.
The project is intended to impact 15,000 farmers in the area and a population of more than a 100,000 people . With the economic upliftment of approximately 55 villages in the area this project is expected be a cornerstone for the change in Indian Agriculture. With a demonstration of opportunity to multiply yields based on the latest global technologies and supervision of world leading agronomist, as also forward and backward integration the project is pathbreaking for the Indian Agricultural community . On account of the scale and impact, this project shall be deemed to be a guiding light for the future of Indian Agriculture.
With this Pathbreaking project the shackles of Indian Agriculture can be Broken . The Three core problems of Indian Agriculture 1) Small Land Holdings 2) Lack of Technology 3) Inefficient Market Linkages can all be broken. Promoting water use efficiency and productivity through integrated off-farm and on-farm Investments and market linkages in the Command Area in Maharashtra
(i) Water and Livelihood Security for Rain-fed Agriculture Areas and doubling of income in 3 years.
(ii) Command Area Water Productivity – recharging aquifers, water management (iii) Wastewater Reuse and Management
This will be a project to demonstrate integrated water use efficiency and productivity improvements and establish market linkages in command areas in the state, in coordination with the Water Resources Department of the Government of Maharashtra and through innovative Public-Private-Civil Society partnership model.
(i) off-farm activities that include bulk water transmission through irrigation systems and supply water to clusters
(ii) on-farm activities that include internal water distribution to each farm with adoption of micro irrigation systems, adoption of advanced agriculture practices within the farms, for water use efficiency and productivity gains
(iii) Innovative strategies to provide alternate farming incomes including fisheries , hydroponics , vertical agriculture etc.
The target of the project is doubling income of farmers in 3 years at a sustainable level.
